Sharon Squire
Sharon is an accomplished governance leader and board chair with extensive experience in the health and not-for-profit sectors. She is Chair of the Board of Trustees of The Royal, where she provides strategic leadership and oversight for one of Canada’s leading mental health specialized care organizations. She also serves as National Director (Ottawa/Nunavut) for the National Association of Federal Retirees, advocating for improvements to the financial security, health and well-being of older adults.
Sharon has served on numerous notforprofit boards at the regional and national levels, supporting boards through change and strengthened board effectiveness, accountability, and performance. She brings expertise in health care governance, the Ontario health care system, risk oversight, quality, human resources, and organizational transformation. Her work also focused on improving the well-being of Veterans, with particular attention to the experiences of women Veterans.
Prior to her retirement from the federal public service, Sharon held senior executive roles in the Office of the Veterans Ombudsman, Treasury Board Secretariat, Privy Council Office, the Office of the Chief Human Resources Officer, and Canadian Heritage. Her career included leading largescale policy, program, and digital transformations aimed at improving service quality, accessibility, and outcomes for Canadians.
An avid dragon boater and national team member, Sharon brings a personal commitment to aging well, positive health outcomes and the role of lifelong physical activity in supporting healthy aging.
