International Longevity Centre Canada Announces New Leadership Appointments

The Board of Directors and staff of the International Longevity Centre Canada (ILC Canada) are pleased to announce a new chapter in the organization's leadership as we continue our commitment to advancing healthy longevity, protecting the rights of older persons, and creating a Canada free from ageism.

Effective July 1, 2026, we are delighted to welcome Mr. Kahir Lalji as the new President of the International Longevity Centre Canada. Mr. Lalji brings extensive leadership experience, a deep commitment to healthy ageing, and a strong vision for advancing the organization's national and international impact. We look forward to working together to build on ILC Canada's legacy of research, advocacy, collaboration, and action.

At the same time, we are honoured to recognize the extraordinary leadership and lasting contributions of Margaret Gillis, who will assume the new role of Founder, President Emerita and International Lead. Margaret's vision and decades of dedication have established ILC Canada as a respected voice for older persons in Canada and around the world. We are deeply grateful that she will continue to guide our international engagement and strategic initiatives.

The Board is also pleased to announce its newly appointed Directors:

  •  Barbara McMillan – Chair

  • Maureen Kidd – Treasurer

  • Jasvinder Channa – Secretary

  • Lars-Pablita Thomas – Director

Together, this accomplished Board will provide strategic governance and leadership as ILC Canada enters an exciting new phase of growth.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Kiran Riberu for his leadership as Chair of the Canadian Coalition Against Ageism. His commitment has strengthened the Coalition and advanced the national conversation on eliminating ageism.

Looking ahead, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Raza Mirza and Marta Hajek as the Interim Co-Chairs of the Canadian Coalition Against Ageism. Their collective expertise and leadership will help guide the Coalition as it continues to unite organizations and individuals committed to ending ageism in all its forms.

As we begin this next chapter, the Board, staff, and volunteers of ILC Canada remain steadfast in our mission to advance healthy longevity, eliminate ageism wherever it exists, and champion the dignity, inclusion, and human rights of older Canadians.

We thank our members, partners, supporters, and collaborators for their continued trust and commitment. Together, we look forward to building a society where every person can age with dignity, purpose, and opportunity.
