The Harambee Alliance for Health, Wellness & Aging (HAHWAS), in collaboration with community leaders, researchers, clinicians, academic partners, and policymakers, is hosting a landmark event:

Elders in the Margins: Disrupting Ageism, Centering Black Lives & The Black Health and Wellness Expo
Date: February 7, 2026
Venue: Langara College, Vancouver (official partner)

This first-of-its-kind symposium in B.C. will bring together experts and community members working at the intersections of migration, race, aging, cultural wellness, and health equity.  Your partnership will directly support elder participation, youth involvement, community honoraria, scholarships for grass-roots organizations, and accessibility measures – ensuring that the symposium remains deeply inclusive, culturally grounded, and community-led.

58th session of the Human Rights Council

After the UN Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing concluded it’s mandate in May 2024, the focus has shifted to the UN Human Rights Council.  The council meets in Geneva for it’s 58th session from February 24 to April 4th.

The meetings specifically pertinent to the UN Convention on the Rights of Older Persons will take place in Geneva between March 12 and March 17.

GAROP meeting about about advocacy at the Human Rights Council

GAROP is hosting an an informal meeting for our members on Tuesday 17th December at 13:00-14:00 CET to discuss our joint advocacy at the Human Rights Council in Geneva next year.

We will focus particularly on our work in early 2025 ahead of the 58th Human Rights Council session. All our member organisations’ contacts should receive this email and all are welcome to join the meeting.
